The Vatican City is a separate country within Italy, with its own flag, monarchy and euro coins. The ecclesiastical state is governed by the Pope, who is also the monarch, and it's economy relies solely on tourism. The city is a walled territory with the main purpose of protecting the Pope from attack, with reinforcements from the Pontifical Swiss Guard and other militia, although their main function is just ceremonial. Unlike most countries, citizenship is rarely granted, and only on the basis of a person's capacity to work within the city. As a result of this, the population of the city is a mere 900.Despite its rich history, the Vatican City is one of Europe's newest microstates which in a geographical sense would share much in common with our potential South London State. However, our intentions are for South London to have no monarchy, and due to it's diverse multicultural community, it would not be governed in any religious sense.
